The Dirt on Dirt: Is Double Cleansing the Real Deal?

How often do you commit the following skincare mistakes?

  • Fallen asleep with makeup on
  • Spent less than a minute cleansing your face
  • Settled with only a foam cleanser or makeup removal wipes most days

While we’re too busy talking about SPF-infused products or all those nourishing masks, it seems as if we’re forgetting about the one thing that is just as important: cleaning your face.

Just when you thought your cleansing routine was enough, Dermalogica steps in and asks us the important questions. Nope, 20 seconds to rid your skin of all that makeup, sunscreen and environmental pollutants is not enough, according to experts.

To solve all these issues, we’re introduced with their latest product, the PreCleanse Balm.

PreCleanse Balm

Made to be used before your actual cleanser, Dermalogica’s PreCleanse Balm transforms from a balm into an oil, cleaning out makeup, dirt and old skin cells while locking in hydration. This is meant to dissolve that layer of buildup that usually prevents your regular cleanser from doing its thing.

What’s also great about the product as well is that is comes with a mitt to enhance cleansing and exfoliation! Softly applying it on your face feels relaxing as well—I like to think of it as if you were giving yourself a mini facial, rewarding yourself after a long day at work.

While I typically double cleanse, I admit that there are times when I assume that settling with one cleanser or using makeup removal wipes is enough (especially for those days when I barely wear any makeup). Turns out that I couldn’t be more wrong. After a few days of using the PreCleanse Balm together with their mitt, I felt that my skin was being thoroughly cleaned the way it deserved to be. I paired this with the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for maximum results. One of my favorite things about this routine is that I found it to be totally fuss-free, as it doesn’t take up too much of your time.

The result? Clearer skin that doesn’t feel so clogged. If there’s one thing to take away from this, it is that every little thing you do to your skin counts. So the next time your bed seems to be luring you immediately after a long day or a fun night out, always remember to properly clean your skin first.
